AASVET President Greetings

With great pride and enthusiasm, I welcome you to the 21st Annual Conference of the Asian Academic Society for Vocational Education and Training (AASVET). As we gather again, this event continues to serve as a vital platform for scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and industry leaders to exchange insights, innovations, and strategies shaping the future of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) across Asia and beyond.
In recent years, the global landscape has undergone rapid transformation driven by technological advancements, shifting labour market demands, and increasing calls for inclusive and sustainable development. TVET has emerged as a cornerstone in addressing these challenges, offering pathways for skills development, youth empowerment, and economic resilience. However, it faces pressing issues such as the digital divide, mismatched skill training, access disparities, and the urgent need for green skills aligned with climate action goals.
The theme of this year’s conference reflects our shared commitment to reimagining TVET in a post-pandemic world. We recognize the critical role of digital literacy, artificial intelligence, and Industry 4.0 technologies in transforming traditional vocational education. At the same time, we must ensure that these innovations are accessible to all—especially marginalized communities, women, and rural populations—who stand to benefit most from equitable TVET opportunities.
This year, we have brought together an exceptional lineup of keynote speakers, panel discussions, and research presentations that explore key topics such as work-integrated learning, competency-based training, entrepreneurship development, and the integration of sustainability into vocational curricula. We aim to foster meaningful dialogue and collaborative partnerships that bridge education, industry, and policy. As President of AASVET, I remain steadfast in my belief that high-quality, responsive, and future-ready TVET systems are essential for building resilient societies. Through this conference, we hope to inspire new thinking, promote evidence-based practices, and strengthen regional cooperation to meet the evolving needs of learners, employers, and communities.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all participants, presenters, sponsors, and organizing committees whose dedication makes this annual gathering possible. Let us use this opportunity to celebrate progress and chart a bold and inclusive vision for the future of vocational education and training in Asia.
